Weeding Out Weeds, Wow!

From The Daily Word on August 6, 2024, Cofounder of Silent Unity, Myrtle Fillmore, wrote: “By following the teaching of Jesus Christ and seeking the guidance of the Most High (the individual) does not leave room for negative thoughts to enter. Health, or harmony, is the one presence and power in the universe.”

Similar to digging out weeds in a garden for plants to flourish, Digging negative thoughts out from our minds is imperative for human and spiritual growth to occur.

It’s easy to let the weeds enter our subconscious and conscious minds. Sometimes, we don’t even notice the weeds are there until they consume the whole garden. Then, and only then, perhaps by tripping over the thing we realize its presence.

Wouldn’t it be good if we saw the weeds earlier?

When I was studying psychology and counseling many moons ago, there was a process known as The Awareness Circle, for it was diagrammed in a clock fashion. Everything we do circulates through these seven steps. The concept was explained like drinking a glass of water.

#1. Sensation: there’s a small feeling in my mouth that says, I’m thirsty

#2. Awareness: The inkling reaches my conscious mind, I’m thirsty

#3. Motivation: I should get up and get a drink

#4. Action: I walk across the room to the kitchen and fill the glass with water

#5. Contact: the water touches my lips

#6. Satisfaction: Hmm, Water for sure, for sure, hits the spot

#7. Withdraw: I sigh, place the glass back on the counter, and walk away

Many times, as humans we get stuck somewhere in this process. We ignore our desires until it’s too late. Two examples of how we get in our own way and get trapped are as follows.

First, we faint because we didn’t drink water earlier. We knew we were thirsty; however, we either weren’t motivated to get up, or, we didn’t act on our need to go and get a much-needed drink.

Second, we have a great idea, yet, we don’t act upon our intuition, and before we realize what happened, someone stole our great idea and the opportunity is lost forever.

Negativity works in the same way. We might have an inkling or awareness that negative thoughts are forming or about to come forth from our lips. Yet, we don’t stop ourselves. Before you know what’s up, we think the thoughts, speak the words, act the acts. During these moments, we are not satisfied and we remain stuck in our negativity going round and round.

We need to be aware of our negative weed thoughts earlier. We must mow the weeds down upon the first entrance into our conscious mind before they get out of hand.

I knew a speaker friend, Joe Sabah, who used to say, “Cancel, cancel, cancel” every time he heard someone say anything negative. He said this to me just one time for me to understand my words were negative.

I can’t tell you how many times I heard Joe say, “WOW”!!! I think wow was one of his favorite words. I think Joe was Weeding Out Weeds without knowing my acronym.

The challenge is to notice our thoughts. We must pay attention to our background chatter. What we think about we bring about. It only takes 16 seconds for a negative weed to take root. Be the change! Dig out the root! Go for the relief of the glass of water. Begin and complete The Awareness Circle. If you have an idea, carry it through. If you have an action, take it. If you have a negative thought “Cancel, cancel, cancel.” It is up to you to give your flower nourishment, watch it row, and allow the God sunlight to expand the positive flower petals. You are the creator of your dreams! You Can WOW your life and change the way you see and change the way you live
