The Right to Take Up Space
Recently, one of my friends arrived at my door, repeating over and over again, “I’m sorry. … I’m sorry for being late. … I’m sorry I didn’t knock. … I’m sorry I didn’t do this or that right.”
That constant I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry caused me pause.
How come people are so sorry?
Sorry for what?
Just being present and/or taking up space?
Sometimes, I’m sorry has to do with low self-esteem. I don’t matter! It’s my fault! Please forgive me! I’m not good enough.
What if you are?
What if you’re just as valuable and worthy as the next person?
What if it’s okay for you to be here right now on the planet for a given reason?
About twenty years ago, the psychotherapist I was seeing at the time told me after I questioned my purpose, “Maybe your purpose is to inspire someone while you’re crossing a street.”
I was angry when she presented that concept to me. Really? I retorted, “I want to be more! I want to inspire others through speaking, writing, singing!”
“And that may not be God’s purpose for you!”
Hmm! Twenty years later, I believe I’ve come to understand what she was trying to say to me. My divine purpose is left in the hands of the creator. My divine purpose is to work on being holy! To be strong! To do what is mine to do. To believe in my Self-body, mind, spirit, and emotions. I am divine, and as such, I have no limitations except what’s inside my head. All things, not some things, all things are possible.
My favorite affirmation is: “I am a divine light of God in expression. I am whole and holy! I am peaceful, loving, and wise! I am abundant and free!”
The Daily Word for May 13, 2026, was Holy. These two quotes struck a major chord for my spirit.
“Beyond all appearances and above all limitations, my divine identity is holy, pure, and perfect.”
“In the stillness of divine prayer, my divine qualities of love, strength, wisdom, and peace shine forth.”
Reading these quotes inspires me to be a divine being. To live boldly. To know without a shadow of a doubt that I am loved, loving, and lovable. I have the right to take up space in the world!
The message from The Universe for this same date said:
“If anyone should ever ask if you’re enlightened…
ALWAYS SAY, “YES!”
The same goes for being healthy, wealthy, and loved beyond imagination.”
If we have the right to take up space, then we need to remember we are holy above all things. We are better than we believe we are! We are unlimited and free! There are no chains that bind us! Not financial, environmental, health, or potential! We are capable beyond belief! The only limitations we have are those thrust upon ourselves by our egos. We are strong! We are magnificent! We are powerful! All our inner dreams can and do come true! We have no reason to apologize for taking up space on the planet! We have no reason to say I’m sorry! …
I challenge you to take up space! To be more than you think! To be magnificent! To be divine! And in these ways, you will change the way you see and change the way you live.
