Too many times these days, we are looking at our cell phones and texting. Texting while driving! Texting at the dinner table! Texting at the movies! Texting at church, school, and at work! Texting! And, when we aren’t texting, we’re taking pictures! We are trying to capture the perfect moment to post on social media! “See where I’ve been? Wasn’t that cool?” And the more likes we get, our self-esteem improves. Craziness!

I wonder, how much of the here and now are we missing by looking down at our phones?
More importantly, I wonder what we’re trying to find.

I dare say what we’re looking for while on our phones, isn’t on our phones. What we’re looking for is within! What we’re looking for is a relationship and connection. Connection with Self, connection with others, and if I were bold, connection with spirit.

We all want, you and I, to touch and connect with one another. That’s how we build relationships with friends and family. That’s why we join service clubs, churches, sports teams, choirs, bowling leagues, have meals together, and work on projects together. It isn’t these activities themselves we’re particularly interested in, though these activities probably fill one of our passions, we long to be in a relationship with one another. Even owning pets or star gazing, we’re longing to connect and be in a relationship with something greater than ourselves.

Connection, being in a relationship, and love is what binds us together. Love lasts beyond life; it’s forever! Our light, our love, our sorrows, our pains, all one. Everyone on the earth shares in both the human and the spirit experience. No matter what, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Today our minds can easily be consumed by the outer world’s concerns. We must be aware of what’s occurring and participate and take action, yet, we must not be swallowed up by its negativity. We are the lights of the world! We have come here to share! We are brighter and more brilliant than all the worries and troubles of the world. We need to put down our phones and tablets and remember who we are. We need to release our limitations! We are the children of God sent here right now to show love! This is the time to connect, reunite, and create the earth and our lives the way we want.

The choice is ours! We can be victimized by our experiences or empowered by them. Let’s choose empowerment! Let’s choose to be in a relationship with one another! Let’s share our humanity and our spirituality! Let’s share our love and our fears! Let’s share our light and our dark! Let’s share our joys and our pains! This is the answer! By sharing, by living the light, by loving, and by connecting, we will change the way we see and change the way we live.
