Going Down the Rabbit Hole, Soaring Into Greatness

Going Down the Rabbit Hole

Being blind, I don’t know much about physical rabbit holes, except the internet says they can go as deep as 10 feet underground. Most of us refer to going down the rabbit hole as, “a bizarre, confusing, or nonsensical situation or environment, typically one from which it is difficult to extricate oneself.” Often times, we don’t know we have slid into one until we wake up one morning finding ourselves in an unforeseen predicament and wondering where the opening is, and how we are going to get out!!!

I found myself in a rabbit hole last week. Unknowingly, I miscommunicated with a colleague and friend of mine which ended up in me missing professional events that were important to attend. In hindsight, seems like my body was above ground while my head was buried deep in the hole. Not until we had a powwow, did I realize my situation. After many tears and much explanations, we vowed to never go down any rabbit holes ever again!

I heard someone say recently, that today’s decisions will affect our tomorrow’s lives. Certainly, the large decisions change and move our lives forward in leaps and bounds, i.e., singing in leading roles in operas, writing a memoire, building a Habitat home, winning Ms. Colorado Senior America, or climbing the Cydney-Harbor Bridge; however, life is made up of the little decisions, and these are the ones which impact our lives and futures the most.

For example, have you ever decided to eat a piece of cake instead of eating an apple? Over time, the many pieces of cake add up to a mound of pounds. It’s much easier to decide to eat the apple at the get go; however, many of us don’t get it until we can’t get into our favorite pair of jeans any more. Oops!!!

The challenge is to see life as possibilities, not problems. To stand every moment of every day at the edge of the rabbit hole and say:

Do I want this thing that doesn’t serve me or, do I want that thing, which does?
Is this decision adding good to my future?

The small decisions of today add up, and over time, can cause us to either have our dreams and/or get derailed down the rabbit hole. Let’s choose to live in our possibilities! Let’s choose to make healthy choices. Let’s choose to back away from the rabbit hole, stand tall, and vow to change the way we see, and change the way we live! Let’s choose to be Unstoppable, Unforgettable, and Unbelievable! Let’s choose to leave the problems of our past behind and to embrace the possibilities of our future! Let’s choose to be conscious! And, let’s choose to change!
