Expand into Your Light
Here’s a quote I’m including in my upcoming Soaring into Greatness, How to Live an Unstoppable, Unforgettable, and Unbelievable Life, Workbook.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
“You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
“It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
—Marianne Williamson Daily Word, Unity World Headquarters
This quote begs the question, are you shrinking from your light or stepping into it?
We all have felt fear. Sometimes we have large life-changing ones and sometimes we have miniscule fears. Those small ones that we push to the back of our mind day after day—those are the ones we need to pay attention to—for they can build up in our heads and we can believe that those fears are true.
The odd thing is, we don’t even know we are living in those fears. Let me ask you this, how many times do you travel the same route home? How come? It’s easy and comfortable, right? Day after day you travel unthinking.
What if you tried a different route?
What if you took a side street instead of the highway?
I think it’s good to get a little uncomfortable once in a while! In doing so, we expand into our light and greatness.
Today, I took different streets home from my daily walk with my Seeing Eye pup. Next week, I volunteered to participate in a skit for the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado’s state convention guide dog seminar. I also stepped out of the box and decided to join folks I don’t know and go to a sports bar for dinner. Just getting to where I’m meeting the bus, traveling with folks I don’t know, and learning the hotel is a stretch. It’s been a long time since I’ve mingled with these folks, and part of me is a little apprehensive.
However, if I don’t step into my fear, if I don’t expand, if I don’t take a chance, then, I allow the fears to win and I allow my Self to shrink into my smallness.
So, the challenge is, for you to look at some areas in your life and see where you’re allowing the fear to keep you from stepping and living in your light and greatness. As I say in the introduction of my book, Soaring into Greatness, a Blind Woman’s Vision to Live her Dreams and Fly, “I believe we were all meant to soar—every single one of us. No matter the challenges we’ve faced or the obstacles we may still need to overcome, we’re all intended to be beings of light—weightless and bright.” In living in our lights, we will change the way we see, and we will change the way we live.
Email, call, or text me and let me know how you stepped and expanded into your light.
