Being the Gentle Wave
Recently, I heard Willie Geist on the Sunday Today Show interview an upcoming country singer. She stated she was now standing and riding the big wave. She’s finally made the big time. This got me thinking about how my dad used to want me to either be Arthur Rubinstein, Beverly Sills, or the Joyce Brothers; depending if I was studying the piano, voice, or psychology.
Why wasn’t it okay for me to play piano for assistive living facilities, sing for churches, or provide counseling for folks in my community?
By aiming so high, was this a setup for me to fail?
No. In the big scheme of things, I’ve come to realize everything has happened in my life for my highest good and all this has made me who I am today.
At times, we all need to “Aim for the stars and hit the moon”, or “Man’s goals should exceed his grasp or what’s a heaven for”.
However, in this process of constantly aiming for our stars and futures, we can’t forget to live in the here and now or forget that we are okay and worthy just the way we are.
Spiritually speaking, we are simultaneously the little drop of water, we are the wave and we are the ocean. We are what is. We matter. All of us together make a difference.
It is not good for ourselves or humanity to be angry, fight, or cause wars, tsunamis, or hurricanes. We all must resolve to be willing to evolve towards living in peace, love, and kindness, and being the gentle wave.
In being the drop of water, wave, and ocean, we must:
Let go and forgive the past
Live in the moment
Accept what is
Embrace change
Love unconditionally
Have faith
Realize power and strength within
Acknowledge internal wisdom
Create a joyful, playful life
Know everything is in divine order
Float in harmony and peace
Be the light
When we are the gentle wave, we’re not separate from one another; rather one with one another. We let go of our fears and all that limits us. We forgive and embrace. Life, with all its dualities-black white, up down, mountains valleys, fear love, day night, good bad-is only love. Nothing is happening to us, rather, life is happening for us. All we experience is a blessing. Everything is leading us to evolve towards our highest potential as spiritual beings.
As you wander around in your humanness, stop for a few moments and imagine yourself as a gentle wave rocking in the vastness of a warm ocean. As the drop of water, you just gently flap against the shore. There is no duality. There is no fear. There are no worries. You are one. One with the ocean. One with Self. One with spirit. You are gently rocking, rocking, rocking. Just being. Just at peace. Just hanging in the vastness. In being a drop of water, part of the gentle wave, and the ocean, you are not only changing the way you see and changing the way you live, you are changing humanity towards its goodness and oneness.
