Finding My Zeal Again

From the Daily Word on August 22, 2026, I read: “Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore famously wrote, ‘I fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm and spring forth with a mighty faith to do things that ought to be done by me.’ He was 93.”

Yep, I’ve been feeling the same as of late. Everything is in divine order. If I’m to speak, be on podcasts, sit at home, go for a walk, mingle with others, play piano, watch a movie, enjoy a meal, take a nap, or write a book—whatever the thing is I’m to do, that’s what I’m to do. That’s my purpose! That’s my calling! No worry! No regret! No begrudging! All is a learning experience. I’m here to do what is mine to do and, to take that one step farther, to do things with joy, enthusiasm, and gratitude. And, in the hard times, to be authentic and trust that all will be well and to remember that this too is in divine order.

Of course, it’s easy to feel full of zeal when things are purring along and life is in alignment. Then, a positive attitude and action naturally occurs. However, when we are out of sync, when faith seems to waver, when our attitudes falter, and when moving forward is difficult, then what?

How do we get back on track?

How do we find our Selves?

It’s during these times that we must remind ourselves of what one little thing brings us joy. What one little thing can we do today? What one little thing can we do to make ourselves or someone else happy?

Sometimes, when we don’t have our own alignment, attitude, or action in place, serving someone else may be the ticket. Sometimes, stopping and taking a moment to do something you haven’t done for years that used to bring joy is the answer. Sometimes, talking to a friend works.

There is no one answer to finding purpose, joy, and zeal.

I think I’ve been depressed for a couple of years now. After giving a knock-out keynote at the Meetings Industry Council of Colorado (MIC) in 2024 and not getting any “results,” I have been wandering around trying to find my purpose, my joy, my zeal!

As I continued blogging, working on publishing my upcoming workbook, and writing book three, I couldn’t “see the light.”

Then, from out of the dark came Abilene.

I thought Abilene would open doors, give me referrals, and “show me the way.” Yet Abilene did something greater!

Abilene gave me my zeal back! My enthusiasm for my purpose. Ever since Abilene, I’ve been moving forward. If they want me to speak, then other places must want me too. I’ve been putting out emails to disability and HR organizations around the country, using my recent success as a carrot to hold out to others.

And, lo and behold, it’s slowly working. I’m going to be on a podcast, and some people are interested in having me speak to them. Nothing has been carved in concrete yet; however, I am moving with my career again! I’m stepping forward into my own light. Doing what is mine to do!

So, where are you in your journey?

Are you stuck, purring along, or flying?

If you need a little kick or tweak, where is it?

What is holding you back from living your best possible life?

Marianne Williamson wrote in A Return to Love, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

I challenge you to be bold, to face the light, to do the things that are yours to do! Let go of “what if,” let go of “I’m not good enough,” let go of the negativity. Plain and simple, follow your heart, for that’s the guidance you are seeking.

And when you follow your heart, you’ll find your zeal, and when you find your zeal, you’ll live your purpose. And, when you live your purpose, you will change the way you see and change the way you live.
