Releasing Agendas

There’re many types of physical agendas in our lives. Board meeting agendas, service club agendas, church council agendas, civic organization agendas, and so on. In our personal lives we may write down what we’re going to do for the day in our so called never-ending to do list. These human-made paper documents are designed to keep us on point.

What about our mental agendas?

Many people have mental agendas of what they’re going to talk about with friends, family, neighbors, doctors, etc. These agendas are fine as long as they’re flexible. When they’re not, and when we expect others to follow and act exactly how we want them to act, then, living by rigid agendas can make life complicated.

Most traditional paper and/or mental agendas come from our egos and keep us tethered and close to new ideas and feelings. In this way, we’re unable to express freely who we are in the present moment. In a functional atmosphere or relationship, mental or physical agendas should be flexible and flow like the wind, and yet guide like a star.

Releasing unbending agendas requires us to release control and drop down into our hearts, be with ourselves and our feelings, as well as those of our friends, family members, and other acquaintances. This is hard! We seldom choose to feel because we don’t want to go there. Feeling causes a willingness for our hearts to be open and vulnerable. And, since being willing to be open may cause us to lose control and feel our pain and cause tears, we don’t want to feel!

If you let go of your physical ego-centered agenda, what would happen?

Would you be able to show up?

Would you be able to let go of your own foregone expectations?

Would you be able to be totally present and attuned to other’s thoughts and feelings?

Wouldn’t life be better if we were truly open to our friends and family; those we trust?

In order to release mental and physical agendas, not only do you have to be willing to be open, present, and vulnerable, you have to be willing to expect the unexpected. You must let go of your doingness and drop down into your beingness. Releasing agendas requires letting go and allowing God Spirit to guide.

I challenge you to release your agenda! Let go! Drop down into your heart! Feel your feelings! Experiment! Be willing! Say yes to whatever happens! In this way, new opportunities and experiences and unseen blessings may flow your way. By letting go of physical or mental firm agendas and open your spirit to the new, you’ll change the way you see and change the way you live!
