Let the River Run

There’s a song by Carly Simon called “Let the River Run” where she calls us to stand up, take charge, and embolden ourselves with our innate internal Self power. We must wake up from our dreams and do what is ours to do now!

“Let the river run

Let all the dreamers wake the nation

Come, the New Jerusalem

Silver cities rise

The morning lights the streets that lead them

And sirens call them on with a song

It’s asking for the taking

Trembling, shaking

Oh, my heart is aching

We’re coming to the edge

Running on the water

Coming through the fog

Your sons and daughters

We the great and small

Stand on a star

And blaze a trail of desire

Through the darkening dawn …

Let the river run …

Let all the dreamers …

Wake the nation …

Come, the New Jerusalem”.

Too many times we are lulled into a dream state by life-taking one day at a time, doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. We do this because it’s easy, safe, and comfortable.

Is this really living?

Is this really happiness?

What’s stopping you from tiptoeing or jumping into the river and walking down stream to see what lurks under the waters?

We tell ourselves, “I’ll do that tomorrow! … Not my job! … I’m too old, fat, stupid!” … whatever filler/excuse you want to fill in.

Really? Who said? Perhaps the little whisper in your heart to write that book, sing that song, go for that hike up the mountain, is God’s nudge that you’re here to do more! You’re here to grasp life, jump into the river and make a splash.

If I hadn’t opened the two emails last fall-first from MIC and second from Flight for Sight-and acted on them, then, I wouldn’t be speaking at the 24th Annual MIC of Colorado Education Conference and Trade Show, Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO on March 27, 2024 9:30 AM and I wouldn’t have had the desire to go to Costa Rica and see what sleeping in a tree house would be like. Now, I don’t know the outcomes of these events. I don’t know what doors will open! I don’t even know if I’ll be a finalist in the Fright for Sight application process.

What I do know is I jumped into the river with both feet and I’m willing to take a chance.

How many times do you let emails or opportunities pass you by?

Isn’t it time to “Wade in the Water” “Let the River Run” and swim to the ocean and see what that view is like, just for the fun of it?

The time is now, not some day! The time is now to do that thing that’s underneath the surface of your brain, pull it out, look at it, and take a chance. God will never ask you to do more than you can handle. If you step into the water, I’ll hold your hand, steady you, and walk along-side you. I challenge you to take your shoes and socks off and try a new adventure. Everything will take care of themselves. Just wade in, feel the mud in your toes, and the currents around your legs. In doing so you’ll change your perspective, life, the way you see, and the way you live and splash in the water.
