The Face in the Mirror

Being blind, writing about mirrors is an odd concept for me; however, I will do my best.

Of course, I cannot tell you about my physical face in the mirror. Some might say, it’s odd that I even have mirrors in my apartment. Yep, in fact, I have four of them! ????

Yet, I want to turn your attention from your face in the mirror. I want you to think about how you see others, especially strangers and those with whom you may have differences.

How do you see them?

Do you see everyone in your life’s mirror with love and kindness?

Or, do you find fault with folks who aren’t of your same-like mind?

Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who’s the most loving and kindest of all?

Everyone is a reflection, a mirror of who we are; our psyches. It is easy to find fault with others, especially when we disagree with their views. And, I think it’s human nature to find comfort with others and together bash and blame. Yet, bashing and blaming 24/7 isn’t good for our psyches, souls, or, the world in which we live.

When we do these behaviors, we’re keeping ourselves and those we’re placing in our mirrors separate. Separate from ourselves, separate from one another, and dare I be so bold as to suggest separate from God.

Isn’t the lesson supposed to be to see everyone in our mirror as one with us, and thus, one with God?

Yet, we are challenged by this. All is well, we are still human! We have cracks in our mirrors! Some cracks are small while others are large. Cleaning the mirror with soap and water will not take away the cracks. The ways to get rid of the cracks are:

Open your eyes

See the crack in the mirror

Acknowledge you have differences

Be gentle with yourself

Forgive yourself for not being perfect

We are all doing the best we can with what we have. Our backgrounds are different. Our life’s circumstances varied. Our societal expectations all have influenced us. Not to mention race, religion, and spiritual beliefs. Coming together is a challenge. And yet, coming together we must. Being one with ourselves, with one another, with our community, our human race, and with our God is the face you want and must see in the mirror.

So, for today, look at everyone in your mirror. See each one as a loving child of God. Affirm: “I see and acknowledge you. Divine oneness is right here, right now. Divine love and kindness are ours. We are divine love and kindness in spirit.” In seeing everyone as the face of God, you will change the way you see and you will change the way you live.
