Feed the LIght

Every day, good things are happening around us. The sun is warming our skin. The birds are singing. We are feeding ourselves nourishing food. Money is rising in our bank account. Good friends are sharing meals with us. And, we have more than enough time every day to do the things that please us.

Yet, in life, sometimes all we see is the dark! Politics. Global warming. Wars. Maybe our finances are dragging us down. Maybe our favorite sports team isn’t winning. Maybe we aren’t fitting into our favorite jeans. Maybe someone is disappointing us. Whatever our circumstances, we are failing to see the good in the world.

It’s so easy to get swallowed up in the negatives. We almost can’t help ourselves! Negativity is everywhere and like sponges, our brains focus on the bad news instead of the good news. And yet, always, in every moment, we have the choice of where we decide to focus our vision and energy!

Where is your focus?

How are you seeing your life?

Are you feeding and consumed by the dark?

Are you feeding or being expanded by the light?

Just like we feed the birds, our families, and ourselves, we must take time every day to feed the light.

Ten Ways to Feed the Light

#1. Turn off the TV set or unplug from electronic devices; especially an hour before bed

#2. Replace negative thoughts with a thought of thanks/gratitude

#3. Take time for yourself

#4. Focus on the solution, not the problem

#5. Pray, meditate, connect with spirit/faith

#6. Exercise, take a walk, or engage in a physical activity

#7. Do something creative; garden, read, cook, paint

#8. Get out of town and do something new

#9. Chat with a friend or professional

#10. Count your blessings every night before going to sleep; list at least three for the day

I’ve heard the layperson say, the definition of insanity is, doing the same thing day after day and expecting different results. I challenge you to shake things up! You might try for one week to go without watching TV or engage in any way with the media. Or, you may experiment with going without eating any carbohydrates, meat, sugar, or dairy. Or, what if you increase your steps by 1000 each day? You could decide to read a spiritual/positive/self-help book. Or, you could try to write a forgiveness/gratitude journal. Whatever you decide to try, make sure you feed the light daily. In feeding the light, you’ll feed love, peace, blessings, and joy as well. In this way, you’ll change the way you see and change the way you live.
